Brass Compass Paperweight
Made of chunky brass with a simple working dry 5cm diameter compass, similar to those used in the Heroic Age and presented in a hardwood box decorated with the UKAHT logo. Much of the early exploration of Antarctica was done without maps, as the continent was discovered so the chart was drawn. Without satellites and other imaging technology and no digital navigation, sailors relied on the most rudimentary of tools. The most important being the trusted compass. In sub zero conditions dry compasses such as this one would have been used and UKAHT's version pays fitting tribute to the explorers of the Heroic Age. This is an heirloom piece that will be treasured for generations.
